Call for Contributions
Everyday Life in Emigration:
Yearbook of the Research Centre for German and Austrian Exile Studies, Volume 16
a peer-reviewed journal published by Rodopi
Proposals for contributions are requested on the subject of everyday life in emigration, for vol. 16 of the Yearbook of the Research Centre for German and Austrian Exile Studies, to appear in 2015. In recent years, academic research has increasingly concentrated on the lives of the ‘ordinary’ refugees who fled from the Third Reich after 1933 to escape Nazi persecution. This focus on the ‘Exil der kleinen Leute’ is filling important gaps in our understanding of the entire experience of exile, of settlement in a foreign country and of adaptation to new and strange conditions that the refugees from Nazism underwent. This volume aims to break new ground in this important area. Topics covered could include:
- Domestic and household life
- Family and children
- Working life
- Accommodation and living conditions
- Social life and leisure activities
- Interactions with the host community
- Objects of daily life
New theoretical approaches to these and other topics, setting, for example, food or dress in a new perspective, are welcome. Contributions should be approximately 6,000 words in length.
Proposals for contributions (max. 300 words) should be sent to both Andrea Hammel (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Anthony Grenville (email@example.com) by 1 October 2013. The deadline for completed articles will be 1 July 2014.
